Bio

Deborah Swiss is a management consultant and author with a specialty in women's history, gender equity, and work/life balance. For information on her latest research, please see Projects. Her first book, Women and the Work/Family Dilemma , identified solutions forged by 900 women for achieving success as a mother and a professional.  Her second book, Women Breaking Through: Overcoming the Final 10 Obstacles at Work , chronicles a new movement in which women themselves are taking action to ensure their own equal opportunity, and, in so doing, change the unwritten rules of work.  Ms. Swiss is a contributing author to Shared Purpose: Working Together to Build Strong Families and High-Performance Companies .

Her third book, The Male Mind at Work: A Woman's Guide to Working with Men examines how gender defines our work experience. A Los Angeles Times Syndicate review compared The Male Mind at Work to Hennig and Jardim's classic The Managerial Woman. Packed with candid accounts from 52 male CEO's and executives, it contains realistic strategies for women who want to rise above gender politics without sacrificing their own identities and unique strengths. Her work has received attention in Time, Fortune, The Wall Street Journal, Harvard Business Review, and The Federal Glass Ceiling Commission Report. She has appeared on The Today Show as a gender issues expert.

Ms. Swiss holds her Ed.M. and Ed.D. from Harvard University and her B.A. magna cum laude from Bowdoin College . She worked at Harvard University for thirteen years in a variety of administrative positions, including a job-share as Associate Director of Employment and Training and a position as Assistant Dean at the Harvard Graduate School of Design.  She consults nationally for major corporations and her speaking engagements include Fortune's New Women: New Leadership Symposium, Women in Technology International, and Hewlett-Packard's Women's Career Conference.
